The EPA’s website provides a great resource for any professional in the hazardous waste management industry. It is important to be aware of permitting requirements and any upcoming changes as posted on EPA’s website.
For any business, it is important to maintain all required regulatory paperwork and permitting requirements current and on file. Not only is this important for the day to day functioning of the business, it also has significant financial implications. First off, without the right permits, the operations can be at risk of imminent shutdown. This not only causes severe financial strain because of potential fines and remediation required, but can also put future business at risk with current customers taking their business elsewhere. Secondly, with permits or regulatory compliance not in order, the business can be at risk of loosing it’s insurance cover. Should something go wrong, the insurance company can be within it’s rights to deny claims thus leaving the business financially exposed. Finally, when it comes time to sell or cash out of the business, not having the current regulatory paperwork may even cause the buyer to back out. If that happens, the business may not be able to unlock the financial value tied up in its goodwill.

So when it comes to running a good waste handling business, make sure that you are current on the requirements by the EPA and your local state/ city government.
